Infant/Toddler Mental Health Coalition Develops Certification Program

The Infant/Toddler Mental Health Coalition (ITMHC) is a professional organization comprised of individuals from various fields who work with young children that promotes the understanding that infancy is a critical period to psychosocial development. Recognizing there were no reliable standards for infant and family service providers in Arizona, ITMHC developed an endorsement program, adapted from a Michigan competency-based system, to certify that a professional has attained a specified level of expertise related to the social and emotional development of infants and young children in families. Lodestar’s funds enabled the organization to purchase the initial license and to fund participants in the first year of the program, who then became endorsers themselves.
