A group of funders and practitioners formed the Initiative for Strategic Volunteer Engagement to promote the strategic use of volunteers and educate the social sector about the value of volunteer engagement. The initiate is conducting two surveys that will be used to launch a national conversation about how to address these attitudes by influencing philanthropic practice and increase funding to support nonprofits in implementing Strategic Volunteer Engagement to help them meet their missions. The Lodestar Foundation made a multi-phase grant to promote the surveys, disseminate the results, and inform organizations of the importance of using volunteers for capacity building.
