MacPhail Center for Music and Madeline Island Chamber Music are two organizations in Minnesota with a deep commitment to music education. MacPhail is a community-based music school which serves 16,000 students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities annually through their spectrum of music education programs, including infant education, K-12 school partnerships, older adult education, and music therapy and instrumental instruction for all ages. Madeline Island provides concentrated study and performance of strings and woodwind chamber music for high school, college, and graduate students in an intensive, annual, six-week summer camp format. Seeking to expand their programming and broaden their audience, student, and donor bases, the organizations decided to merge. The SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration provided a grant to help cover costs of the merger.
