Merger of Two Habitat for Humanity Affiliates in the Portland, Oregon Metropolitan Area

Habitat for Humanity Portland Metro East (“Portland Metro East”) is the oldest Habitat affiliate on the West Coast, the largest Habitat affiliate in Oregon, and widely recognized as one of the leading affiliates in the nation. It currently has three active construction sites with 92 homes being built and engages over 4,000 volunteers annually. Habitat for Humanity Willamette West (“Willamette West”) engages over 2,000 volunteers per year for its building projects. It is currently building 49 homes across three construction sites. As two affiliates of the same nonprofit in a small metropolitan region, the organizations began exploring a merger two years ago to determine whether they could serve more families operating as one entity. The SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration provided a grant to help fund the cost of implementation support for the merger.
