Nonprofits Merge to Provide Continuum of Services for Louisville Seniors

ElderServe and GuardiaCare were both organizations serving older adults in Louisville, Kentucky. ElderServe’s mission is to empower older adults to live independently with dignity through homecare, crime victim assistance, a senior center, an adult day, telecare, care management, wellness programming. The mission of GuardiaCare was to guide individuals and families through the challenges of aging and disability, with programs including guardianship and conservatorship services, elder mediation, geriatric care management, caregiver support groups, and training of newly appointed guardians. When the organizations explored a merger, they determined that together, they could build a stronger continuum of services for the increasing population of seniors and adults with disabilities, develop a stronger infrastructure for effective service delivery, and diversify their funding streams. The SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration provided a grant to help fund one-time transaction costs.
