Both the Academy for Systemic Change and the Donella Meadows Institute (now the Donella Meadows Project) aim to move the world toward economic, environmental, and social sustainability by facilitating various research and education programs. After engaging in regular meetings over several months, the two organizations decided that a merger would ensure their own sustainability and allow them to expand their programming and increase awareness of their shared mission. The SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration provided a grant to help cover one-time costs of the merger.
