Merger of Two Bay Area-Serving Nonprofits Focused on Pediatric Behavioral Health Services

Center for Youth Wellness (CYW) improves the health of children and adolescents exposed to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). It develops tools to screen for ACEs and strategies to mitigate their effects, trains pediatricians, and advocates for widespread ACEs screening in pediatric care settings. Safe and Sound is a Federally Qualified Health Clinic (FQHC) that works to prevent child abuse and strengthen the child welfare system through individual supportive services to families, community training and education, and advocacy work. By joining together, the organizations will be able to implement a trauma-informed “ecosystem of care” model that will improve access to, and delivery of, behavioral health services by incorporating them into primary care treatment – which has been proven to be the most effective model for people with multiple healthcare needs. The SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration provided a grant to help fund the cost of implementation support for the merger.
