Next Door and Penfield Children’s Center (Penfield) are two of the most prominent early childhood education organizations in Milwaukee. In addition to their birth to kindergarten education programs, Next Door also offers literary resources and prenatal services, while Penfield also operates a behavior clinic, parenting groups, and disability services. Given their similarities, the two organizations began discussing potential collaboration models, including a shared services/joint purchasing agreement or a merger. By working together, Next Door and Penfield hope to achieve administrative efficiencies while providing a full continuum of comprehensive services for their clients. The SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration provided a grant to help cover the costs of a consultant to assist in the exploration.
