Inside the Foundation Payout Debate: How Crisis and Opportunity Are Forcing Change

Inside Philanthropy, June 19, 2020.  Five of the nation’s largest and most storied foundations are expanding their combined grantmaking by nearly $1.7 billion. A growing wave of smaller foundations have doubled their giving or more. One group is pushing a legislative effort to force foundations to spend more. And more grantmakers are questioning the assumptions that shape how they decide their giving rates in the first place.
