Civil Rights Program Explores a Program Transfer Out of its Current Organizational Home

National Coalition for a Civil Right to Counsel (NCCRC) advances, supports, and coordinates advocacy efforts to establish a right to counsel for low-income people in civil cases that involve basic human needs (issue areas include shelter, safety, sustenance, health, and child custody). Public Justice Center (PJC) uses legal advocacy to pursue social justice, economic and racial equity, and fundamental human rights for people struggling to meet basic needs. NCCRC currently operates as a program of the Public Justice Center and has outgrown their support structure. Due to a significant increase in demand for NCCRC’s services, NCCRC is exploring a path forward as a independent nonprofit and/or evaluating potential new homes for the program. The SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration provided a grant to help cover the costs of exploring a new home for the program.
