Merger of Two Community Organizing Groups in Chicago

Southside Together Organizing for Power (STOP) is dedicated to advancing economic and social human rights in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Chicago. It focuses its organizing efforts on affordable housing, mental health, and restorative justice tactics in high schools. Not Me We organizes community members to build grassroots infrastructure that ensures the fair distribution of resources in South Shore and its adjacent neighborhoods in Chicago. Not Me We was founded in 2020 and is currently fiscally sponsored by STOP. STOP’s co-founder and executive director is departing by the end of 2024, so the organizations began to consider a merger. The SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration provided a grant to help cover the costs of the merger implementation.
