The Current is a small nonprofit newsroom based in Lafayette, Louisiana. Deep South Today (DST) is a network of local nonprofit newsrooms that serves communities in Louisiana and Mississippi. DST was created to rebuild and reinvigorate local journalism across Southern communities. Each additional newsroom that joins DST strengthens the collective by lowering operating costs of the individual newsrooms, increasing audience, expanding revenue opportunities, and unlocking new philanthropic support. The SeaChange-Lodestar Fund provided a grant to support the legal costs associated with the implementation.
