New York State Afterschool Network (NYSAN) and AfterSchool Works! New York (ASW) were state-wide organizations working to increase afterschool access and quality in New York State. NYSAN was an advocacy organization focused on increasing the quality and availability of afterschool and other expanded learning programs and youth services across New York State. ASW worked with an extensive network of intermediaries, training organizations, and child care resource and referral agencies to provide information, training, credentialing, and support to afterschool professionals. Several board members overlapped between the organizations, and they worked closely together. In 2014, NYSAN and AWS began exploring how they might structure a collaboration and benefit from their complementary expertise. The SeaChange-Lodestar fund for Nonprofit Collaboration funded a portion of the consulting fees. The organizations ultimately decided to combine to better serve the afterschool field in New York as the New York State Network for Youth Success.
