In 1976, eminent cancer researcher Dr. Samuel Waxman founded the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation to fund collaborative cross-institutional research to identify and correct abnormal gene function that cause cancer. He has run the foundation since then in addition to conducting his own research. As Dr. Waxman advanced in age, he began the process of finding a permanent host for the Foundation. The SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration provided a grant to help fund a consultant to assist in the discussions.
