Summer programs, particularly those that serve economically disadvantaged youth, do not just provide entertainment and recreation; they also foster personal development, provide healthy alternatives to negative behaviors, and provide a continuum of learning opportunities through the summer break. For five years, Lodestar provided an ongoing grant to support a funder collaborative that both simplified the application process for nonprofits operating summer programs and coordinated the awarding of grants for such programs.
