Intellectual Disability Organizations Explore Shared Services Agreement

Association for Children with Down Syndrome (ACDS) serves more than 1,200 individuals with Down Syndrome and their families each year through their preschool, daycare, and adult residential programs and recreational and outpatient services. Community Mainstreaming Associates (CMA) helps parents, caregivers, and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The executive directors of CMA and ACDS met in a working group of local leaders of IDD service providers and identified a common desire to pursue a shared services model covering compliance, training, quality assurance, development, and finance. They sought to explore whether a shared services agreement would allow them to increase efficiency and sustainability, leverage their bargaining power with vendors, and streamline processes and procedures for both organizations. The SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration provided a grant to support the exploration.
