Merger of Illinois-Based Nonprofits Creating Home Ownership Opportunities

Emmanuel House and Joseph Corporation were both organizations using different strategies to increase affordable home ownership opportunities in Aurora, Illinois, the state’s second-largest city. After many years of collaborating programmatically, they recognized that a merger would allow them to gain significant efficiencies in existing programs as well as expanded bandwidth to pursue additional opportunities to help working people become homeowners. The merged organization, The Neighbor Project, offers a variety of services to low-income families in Aurora to help them achieve home ownership. A grant from the SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration funded a portion of the transaction costs of the merger.
