SouthSTAR Services and New Hope Center were nonprofits with 65 and 55 years, respectively, of supporting people with developmental disabilities in the south suburbs of Cook County, Illinois. After nearly a decade of collaboration and facing the challenges of decreased state funding, the organizations decided to pursue a merger to operate more efficiently while enhancing and expanding their operations. The organizations merged into New Star in 2016 with the support of a grant from the SeaChange-Lodestar Fund for Nonprofit Collaboration to cover partial costs.
