The Association of Fundraising Professionals – Washington Chapter (AFP-WA) and the Northwest Development Officers Association (NDOA) both had the primary purpose of strengthening and advancing the professional development of people working in the nonprofit fundraising sector in western Washington. In 2010, the organizations began engaging in structures conversations about collaborating in order to improve their programs and strengthen the nonprofit sector as a whole, leading to the decision to merge in 2013. The merged organization, The Association of Fundraising Professionals Washington, Advancement Northwest Chapter (AFP Advancement Northwest), is now a full-service organization for its members that is positioned to challenge the instability in the fundraising field and involve more stakeholders in the fundraising process. The Lodestar Foundation provided a grant to help fund the costs of merging.
